WHAT IS MINING ENGINEERING?
Mining engineering is a branch of science that develops from the field of engineering that requires the application of earth science in extracting minerals and coal from the earth by taking into account technical, economic, environmental and sustainability aspects.
WHY STUDY MINING ENGINEERING?
Mining engineering will provide a comprehensive understanding of earth science and the application of engineering in the mineral and coal mining industry. As an overview, mining engineering graduates who work in mining will be involved in all business lines. Illustrations of the duties/responsibilities of Bachelor of Mining Engineering in the mining industry are as follows:
- Analyze and estimate mineral and coal resources and reserves.
- Determining the appropriate mining method and system according to the condition of the commodity deposit form
- Planning and designing mines and supporting infrastructure
- Supervise the construction of mine supporting infrastructure.
- Supervise the extraction of minerals and coal
- Perform environmental management and monitoring planning
- Performing financing planning and preparation of technical documents supporting mining operational activities
- Conducting selection, control, and planning of mining equipment
- Performing the selection, planning, and design of rock breaking methods
- Perform planning and design of commodity physical processing
- Manage the impacts and risks to occupational safety and health from the main and supporting activities in the mining industry
- Perform valuation and cost planning on mining projects
